Guidelines for Geometric Design of Cantilever Retaining Wall

Following are Guideline for Geometric Design of Cantilever Retaining Wall

1. Assume depth of foundation for retaining wall between 1-2m  below G.L.
2. Find total height of retaining wall (H) by adding depth of foundation to the height of retaining wall between above G.L.
3. Find base width of retaining wall (b) as 0.4-0.6H
4. Take toe projection as b/3.
5. Take thickness of base slab H/12 to H/15
6. Always take care that proportioning of wall is done to achieve notension condition i.e. resultant must always cut the middle third zone.
