Principles of Management by Elton Mayo

Elton Mayo (1880 - 1949) : Australian psychologist

Mayo studied all the aspects of the nature and attitude of the labours, subjected to the efficiency in production.
Mayo concluded that the work arrangement at working place must meet the production requirements but at the same time it must satisfy the employees subjective requirements.
Mayo was of the opinion that, the cause of increase in the productivity of the workers is not a single factor like changing working hours or rest, but a combination of these and several other factors such as less restrictive methods of supervision, giving freedom to the workers to possible extent, allowing the formation of small group of purpose, co-operation between the workers and management, participation in decision making, etc.
